When someone says Lucknow the things (in given order) that come to my mind are :
1. Authentic Lucknawi Cuisine
2. Nawabo ka Sahar (gotta explore the city and it’s architecture and know the amazing stories behind it)
3. Chikankari work

Thanks to the mini itinerary and the planning that we did, I and Garvita could do/experience all of it.
I was my usual super excited restless self before the trip began. But due to a really bad experience with Jet Airways, the details about which I will reserve for another post, things didn’t go as planned.
As soon as we landed in Lucknow, it started raining, saying that it was raining cats and dogs would be an understatement. We had the Renaissance Hotel cab waiting for us and our chauffeur needs a special mention because he gave us this amazing medieval to modern history tour on our way from the airport to the hotel.
Renaissance Lucknow is a 5 star modern luxury hotel in New Lucknow that makes it a point to hold on to the history and charm of the old city. The first thing that I noticed when I entered Renaissance was the beautiful white marble reception and lobby with little cake cafe called Coffee & Cakes at the corner . The cakes and pastries that they baked were pretty popular because this place was rarely empty.
When we checked into our room, we saw a beautiful customised chocolate platter that was too pretty to eat. It had a beautiful Delhi to Lucknow map with milestones, and mind you everything was edible even the map. I couldn’t help but gobble on chocolates before heading for lunch.
We stayed in a delux city view room. It has two fluffiest single beds. The view of the room was absolutely breathtaking, it overlooked Taj and to be honest the orange dome and white walls gave me Santorini vibes. The room had a minimal decor which was tastefully done in the shades of brown, beige and nudes.
If you are a person who likes to workout during travel, Renaissance is the prefect place to say. The gym is equipped with all the modern amenities and you can totally exercise with a view because glass walls!
Since Renaissance mainly caters to the business clientele, it has small meeting rooms as well. All the guests staying at the hotel can hold their meetings at the Jade meeting room.
SKY BAR AND POOL
I had heard so much about Sky Bar even before visiting Renaissance. The Sky Bar is Lucknow’s ‘it’ nightlife destination. We were lucky enough to be there on a Saturday. Every Saturday “Sky Bar Project” takes place, it has amazing food, live music and drinks basically everything that you need to party on a Saturday night. The best part is that it offers a spectacular view of Old Lucknow at the left and New Lucknow at the right.
Coming to my favourite part, the infinity pool! The view that the pool offers is absolutely spectacular. One can see the Hathi park and Gomti River front from the pool. Since the rain had dampened all our plans to hit the pool on day 1, we woke up around 6 the next day, all excited for our early morning swim.
Renaissance Lucknow has two dining options , they have an all day dining at level L-14 and another one is Sepia. Sepia is a proper dining restaurant, it serves authentic Lucknawi cuisine and opens at 7 in the evening.
Renaissance all day dining restaurant has a minimal modern decor with objects strategically placed to induce a sense of nostalgia and it goes without saying that it has absolutely delicious lip smacking food. The head chef Balvinder Lubana is super passionate about his food. Renaissance as the largest buffet spread in Lucknow. They have 45 options available at their buffet.
What to try at the breakfast buffet :
One thing that you should not miss are the pancakes. We had a normal pancake with blue berries and whipped cream and chocolate pancake made from chocolate pancake batter with nutella, chocolate syrup and chocolate chips.
What to try at lunch buffet :
The Awadhi Biryani is a definite must have.
What to try at dinner buffet :
Renaissance makes it a point to combine the chef’s specialities with soul filling home style food.
The salad bar is something you should try your hands on and make your own salad. Do not miss the squid salad.
They make home-made pasta and I had chicken filled ravioli in a white walnut sauce and it tasted divine.
Do not forget to end your meal with home-made ice cream. You can make your own waffle cone ( say what?). I tried the banana caramel flavour and it was to die for.
They make baked yogurt well. The flavour options are vanilla, jaggery and dates to name a few.
Buffet cost :
Breakfast : INR 750 plus taxes
Lunch : INR 1300 approx
Dinner : INR 1600 approx
How to reach : Renaissance Lucknow is a 30 mins drive from the Airport and 25 mins drive from the Railway station.
You can take a Swarn Shatabdi Delhi to Lucknow which takes 6 hours to reach or a flight that takes 50 mins.
