Revival of the Silk Saree

Revival of the Silk Saree
The Wedding Series

People say that diamonds are forever but I say that silk sarees are forever. It is often thought that silk sarees age young girls therefore a chiffon saree or a saree that is light and flowey is their choice for family functions or farewells. But that is a myth!

Silk sarees are classic and they add a touch of royalty and sophistication. If you feel like wearing a silk saree would age you, choose the brightest color that pops out like we did. Garvita choose a bright purple and pink saree and I choose a vintage blue embroidered silk saree because who can separate Charuta and vintage?

While Garvita took a modern take on the silk saree (you can read about it on her blog here), I took the vintage route. This beautiful blue hand-embroidered silk saree deserves a moment of its own. This saree is 25 years old and was gifted to my mother by my Nana (grandfather) when he came to visit her first time after her wedding. This is saree is especially hand-embroidered and made on order so it’s one of a kind.

I wanted to stay true to the essence of the saree so I paired it with a powder blue brocade puffed sleeves blouse which is also my mother’s and she had got it tailored to wear it for my second birthday. It is such a coincidence that puffed sleeves are back in fashion, I mean look at all the fast fashion brands cashing in on the trend.

To make the look extra and Indian wedding appropriate, I added a gold choker and wore a deep red lipstick.

Pro tip : if you forget your bindi use your to liquid lipstick to make one, that’s what I did. I centre parted my hair and tied it in a low bun, my go to hairstyle with Indian wear (for the lack of better hairstyles) and tucked fresh flowers in my bun. Finally wore my sunglasses, kids do not wear your sunglasses if you are going to a night wedding.
